General Description

SEAMAAC welcomes applications for the regular part-time position of Food Distribution Assistant. SEAMAAC (founded in 1984, as the Southeast Asian Mutual Assistance Associations Coalition, Inc.) was established by refugees from Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam. The founding vision was to unite several of Philadelphia’s Southeast Asian organizations into a dynamic refugee-led coalition. This allowed small ethnic communities to share resources, and created a unified voice and effective advocacy for the city’s Southeast Asian community. Because of SEAMAAC’s excellent track record in service delivery, in 1998, after 14 years of exclusively serving Southeast Asians, SEAMAAC was asked by its funders to expand its services to other immigrants/refugees as well as to native-born Philadelphians of every ethnicity. Today, SEAMAAC is a well-established, well-respected nonprofit organization providing education, health, social services, community development, and civic engagement programming to 17,000 community members per year across ethnic, cultural and racial groups. SEAMAAC’s mission is “to support and serve immigrants and refugees and other politically, socially and economically marginalized communities, as they seek to advance the condition of their lives in the United States.

Primary Function

Under the direction of the Food Distribution Coordinator, the Food Distribution Assistant operations of the food pantry, including but not limited to, maintaining adequate food pantry inventory, quality control of food pantry and ensuring safe site.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Maintains adequate food pantry inventory.
  • Ensure work site is clean before, during and after each day of operation
  • Packs food pantry orders and stocks shelves
  • Candidate should have experience working within a non-profit organization.
  • Skills in verbal and written communication and the ability to plan and organize multiple work tasks as well as good interpersonal communication skills are essential.
  • Must have basic knowledge of MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook and database software.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Competency

To perform the job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality Services, Food Service or related field.
  • Minimum of one-year experience in the Food Service industry.

Language Requirement:

  • Fluency in English is required. Preference will be given to candidates who are bilingual in English and another language(s).

Salary and Benefits:

Hours: Flexible, and primarily during business hours. This position may require some nighttime or weekend assignments.

Salary: $15.00 per hour

Benefits: This position offers paid sick leave.
