With a grant by the Samuel Fels Fund, SEAMAAC will be conducting a health disparity
survey in the Southeast Asian communities of Philadelphia over the summer of 2007.
Through our own experiences with working with immigrants and refugees, SEAMAAC staff
has witnessed our clients' inability to access quality healthcare. Some of the reasons
for the gap in healthcare services to our clients include lack of health insurance,
language barriers, and financial difficulties. This health survey is the start of
SEAMAAC's work to collect data that tells the stories of the needs of Philadelphia's
immigrants and refugees. Following the data collection, SEAMAAC will create a comprehensive
report that will be made available to the community, local agencies and institutions,
and other social services providers.
This special project would not be possible without the collaboration and participation
of our clients, community members, and staff. We would also like to thank the Samuel
Fels Fund, our Samuel Fels' Intern (Leah Hsu), Dr. Giang Nguyen, and participating
organizations including the Cambodian Association of Greater Philadelphia, The Welcoming
Center, HIAS & Council, and Nationalities Services Center.
If you are interested in supporting and participating in this project, please contact
Thoai at 215-467-0690.
Although SEAMAAC continues to receive strong support from various agencies and foundations,
the needs of our clients and others whom we serve still remain greater than what SEAMAAC
can deliver through its programs and staff. Please make a difference to an individual
and a community by making a tax deductible contribution to SEAMAAC. SEAMAAC is a registered
501(c)(3) organization.
When you give financial support to SEAMAAC, you help to build stronger
communities!
We gladly accept checks by mail.
